Alternate sides of the plate carry two different fluids, between which heat transfer is carried out. These are gasketed Titanium plates,clamped together between a closing pressure plate and a frame plate,these plates are clamped together with the help of clamping bolts.The inlet and outlet branches for each liquid is attached to the frame plate. Shell and tube type heat exchanger

Heat exchangers are the machinery in which heat transfer takes place, one of its type used on ship is shell and tube type. Heat transfer takes place in mix flow pattern in this heat exchanger (cross flow, counter flow and parallel flow).The coolant flows through the tubes while the fluid to be cooled surrounds the tubes (Intercooler of compressors is exception). Shell is made up of cast iron with end covers on either side and bundle of tubes is held inside the shell.The tubes are made up of aluminum brass and these tubes are sealed into the naval brass tube plates at both ends,one plate is fixed while other is free to allow for expansion & contration of the tubes.The tube bundle has baffles fitted which supports the stack and also serves to direct the liquid to be cooled up and down over the tubes for better cooling. Introduction Pumps are machines which adds to the energy of a liquid or gas causing an increase in its pressure and thus movement of the fluid. One of its type is centrifugal pumps,these are Roto-dynamic pumps and not self primed and used mostly for low and moderate pressure range.These are basically radial flow or axial flow type(here we are discussing radial type). Lets start with its working principle Water is led to the suction eye of the rotating impeller. The water gains energy by the centrifugal action of the pump and is discharged to the volute outlet casing. The volute is created by increasing the area of the outlet port and is greatest at outlet from the pump.
